Financial Crime Analytics Data Scientist
Job Offer
Our department plays a strategic role in financial crime prevention (FCP) by developing, modernizing and overseeing advanced analytics models that can detect suspicious activities. We work at the heart of the FCP ecosystem, in close collaboration with the second line of defence, operations and IT teams, to meet regulatory requirements, improve monitoring and accelerate progress in analytical performance. In a context of major change, including the gradual adoption of generative AI (GenAI), the migration of our analytical assets to Microsoft Azure and the future use of Databricks as a data science development platform, you’ll actively contribute to the modernization of our models and tools. As a financial crime analytics data scientist, you’ll help design, calibrate, update and roll out our detection models and ensure they are robust and compliant. You’ll play a key role in improving the relevance of monitoring, automating alert processing and continuously optimizing model performance. More specifically, you will be required to:
- Help define and develop the FCP practice’s analytical strategies by providing an innovative, performance-oriented vision
- Design, document and update advanced analytics models to prevent financial crime
- Serve as an expert with internal partners to explain models, recommend solutions, explain identified risks in plain language and support decisions
- Participate in large-scale projects to roll out alert processing and modernize the analytics ecosystem
- Monitor analytics and technology to anticipate emerging risks and propose relevant innovations
- Work with the second line of defence, operations and IT to ensure model quality, consistency, security and compliance throughout the life cycle

What you bring to the table
- Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics or a related field
- Academic specialization beyond the bachelor’s degree level
- A minimum of six years of relevant data modelling or data science experience
- Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
- Financial crime certification (CAMS, CFCS)
- Knowledge of French is required
- Intermediate knowledge of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
- Expertise with data science methodologies and their limitations (machine learning, statistics, etc.)
- Expertise in explaining complex concepts to non-technical parties
- Python programming skills
- Proficiency in analytical product development practices (Git, MLflow, familiarity with MLOps concepts)
- Proficiency in development with Apache Spark
- Knowledge of development approaches using generative AI
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure environment (Databricks)
- Knowledge of financial crime practices and regulatory frameworks (FINTRAC, FATF)
